Vineyards
Stewart Cellars is constantly searching the Napa and Russian River
Valleys for the finest vineyards. We have been fortunate to have been
able to produce our wines from some of the very best grapes available.
All of our vineyards are cultivated to our specifications.
Gibson Vineyard, Russian River Valley
Our Pinot Noir fruit comes from what we believe is the most exciting
vineyard in the Russian River Valley. When we knew we wanted to make a
Pinot Noir, our winemaker, Paul Hobbs, conducted an extensive search
for premium vineyards. He zeroed in on the Gibson Vineyard because,
while it was still quite young, Paul liked the soil, the slope of the
land, and the hands-on, tender loving care that Terry Gibson uses when
caring for his vines. The Pinot Noir vineyard was planted in three
blocks in sandy clay loam soils between 1999 and 2001. Clones 115,
667, and 777 were all planted on 101-14 rootstocks. The vineyard is
located on a gentle ridge top halfway between Graton and Forestville.
Morning fog and gentle breezes are frequent, and the vineyard tends to
bask in the sunshine more than many Russian River Valley vineyards.
Beginning with the 2003 vintage, the Stewart Cellars Pinot Noir
will come entirely from the Gibson Vineyard, and we are extremely
proud to source our fruit from the Gibson family.
Stagecoach Vineyard, Napa Valley
Located in the rugged Eastern hills of Oakville on the south side of
Pritchard Hill in the Napa Valley, the Stagecoach Vineyard is one of
the most sought-after vineyards in the Valley. Owner Jan Krupp tends
to his mountaintop site, which has rocky, red volcanic, clay-loam
soils. Stewart Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon grapes come from the C
Block, which rests on a plateau with a Southwest exposure and
expansive views of Oakville, and on a clear day, the skyscrapers of
San Francisco. Neighbors on one side include Chappellet, Bryant Family
and David Arthur Vineyards, and on the other include Oakville Ranch
Vineyards and Dalla Valle. The C-Block is planted with clones 337 and
4, all on 110R rootstock.
Beckstoffer Vineyards, Napa Valley
Always in demand, we have been building a long-standing relationship
with the Beckstoffer family and are now thrilled to be including
grapes from the Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard in our Cabernet
Sauvignon.
Beckstoffer Georges III is the former Beaulieu Vineyard No. 3, which
was originally planted by Georges DeLatour of Beaulieu in 1928. The
property is located between Conn Creek Road and Silverado Trail in
Rutherford. We purchase our fruit from the B1B and B2A blocks of the
vineyard, which are on a little knoll just off the Silverado Trail.
The B1B block is four acres of Clone 7 planted on 03916 rootstock. The
B2A block is seven acres of Clone 4, also planted on 03916 rootstock.
